Educational years 2024-25 has seen a significant decrease in dropout rates at early, middle and secondary levels as compared to the last two years, namely 2022–23 and 2023-24. In the preparation phase, the rate declined from 3.7% to 2.3%, from 5.2% to 3.5% in the middle phase, and from 10.9% to 8.2% in the secondary phase compared to the previous year, the education (UDISE) plus report for integrated district information system revealed.
“This below trend has improved student retention and reflects the success of the initiative aimed at keeping children engaged in their education. Continuous decrease at all levels suggests that schools are becoming more helpful and responsible for students’ needs, help reduce the initial departure from the system,” Udise+ reports.

According to the report, the retention rates have been significantly improved compared to the previous year, 98.0% to 98.9% at the founding level, 85.4% to 92% at the initial level, 78.0% to 82.8% at medium level and 45.6% to 47.2% at secondary level.
The report stated, “One of the major contributors to this improvement, especially at the secondary level, is an increase in the number of schools offering secondary education. This expansion has increased access and encouraged continuous enrollment,” the report states.
Better infrastructure
The number of schools with computer access has increased from 57.2% to 64.7% this year in 2023-24 academic year. Similarly, internet access in schools has improved significantly, increased from 53.9% to 63.5% in 2023-24 to 63.5% in 2024-25.
During the reporting year, 54.9% schools have set up ramps and handrails, promoting access to disabled students and promoting inclusive education.
In addition, 93.6% schools now have electricity, 97.3% have toilets for girls, and 96.2% are toilets for boys, ensure dignity and hygiene for all students. According to the report, handwashing facilities are available in 95.9% schools, and safe drinking water is accessible in 99.3%.
