New Delhi. Tata Motors introduced the Altroz Racer at last year’s Auto Expo as the sportiest version of the Altroz hatchback yet. It was showcased again with a slightly different look at this year’s Bharat Mobility Show. But Tata had not revealed any plans regarding its launch. However, now AutocarIndia has confirmed in a report that the sportier Altroz will indeed go on sale in the coming weeks. The Altroz will be the top-spec variant of the Racer line-up.
The biggest highlight of the Altroz Racer is its 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine which is the same as the Altroz iTurbo. However, it generates power of 120hp and peak torque of 170Nm here – which is 10hp and 30Nm more than the iTurbo. In fact, it is in the same position as the Nexon SUV. The Altroz Racer will likely be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox instead of the 5-speed manual found in the iTurbo.

To mark it as a sportier hatchback, this car will also get some exterior updates. The cars shown at the show had a dual-tone paint scheme with twin racing stripes on the bonnet and roof. It also got ‘Racer’ badging on the front fender, slightly revised grille and newly designed 16-inch alloy wheels.
This model is also expected to have a 10.25-inch screen, segment first ventilated seats, 360-degree camera, heads-up display and a voice-assisted sunroof. Later, some of these features can also be given on regular Altroz. The Racer line-up will also be provided with 6 airbags and ESC as standard. However, with these updates there may be a big increase in the price. Apart from the i20 N Line, the Altroz Racer may also face competition from the turbo-petrol variants of the Maruti Fronx on price basis.
