Bhilwara Many old traditions in Bhilwara are still alive. Today we are introducing you to an ancient tradition of Bhilwara, which has been going on since the Mughal time of Shah Jahan. This tradition is not only a tradition but in Bhilwara it is celebrated as a festival. The tradition of Nahar dance in Bhilwara is very special and interesting. In this, the artists wrap cotton on their entire body and take the form of Nahar i.e. a lion and dance in the style of hunting.
The beginning started to please Shah Jahan
It is said that in the Mughal period, this dance was performed by the artists of Mandal to please Shah Jahan. This time this tradition will be organized collectively for the 412th time at Mandal Stadium in Bhilwara district. This dance is presented only once a year in front of Rama and Raj, to see, a huge crowd gathered in Mandal town. In Mandal town of the district, Nahar dance is performed 13 days after Holi i.e. Rang Teres.
This tradition started from 1614 AD
Ramesh Ballia, president of Rajasthan Lok Kala Kendra Mandal, said that this tradition has started from 1614 AD. At that time there was a cantonment of Mughals and Shah Jahan was departing towards Delhi. Then the residents of the towns thought that to make them happy, such an event should be organized so that Shah Jahan would be happy. At that time, the person was wrapped by cotton and took the form of Nahar and danced. There are two arguments behind this – Narasimha avatar was also considered in it and at the same time this tradition was started in Delhi, but it stopped after Shah Jahan’s rule.
This tradition is more than Diwali
Ramesh Ballia, president of Rajasthan Lok Kala Kendra Mandal, said that this tradition in Mandal is considered a bigger festival than Diwali. On this festival, our sister-daughter, son-in-law and all family members come to Mandal. Sweets and many types of dishes are made in every house and the Nahar dance festival is celebrated with great pomp.
