Mana Ke Hum Yaar Nahin, Teri Mitti, Matlabi Yaariyan- Parineeti Chopra has tried her hand at playback singing like many actors in the past. But what’s driving them apart now is their quest to establish a second career: live singing. She recently made her debut on stage with her own show at a music festival in Mumbai, and she’s all smiles when we meet her.
“I feel on top of the world. I can’t believe I finally did it. I have been dreaming of this day for many lifetimes. I can’t believe I’ve finally started a second career. Currently, I am getting a chance to do acting and music, which no Bollywood actress has done before,” she says.
The 35-year-old, who used to participate in music competitions throughout her childhood, feels for many reasons that this is the right stage of her life to take this step. “I changed agencies last year and the new management was excited to bring me to the stage I dreamed of. I have signed a contract with the biggest management company in this country, which manages people like Arijit Singh, Badshah and Neha Kakkar. Both of them together saw a dream which I had seen. You are nothing without your team,” says Chopra. Making a special mention of one of her favorite politicians, Raghav Chadha, is something she never misses.
She says, “I married a man who inspires me every day, he is my backbone and he really inspired me to take this step. He himself is a public personality and deals with people every day. He saw that I was passionate about music and said I should eventually do it. A lot of factors came together.” Very few people know that Chopra has also sung live on DD channel in her adolescence.
She plans to release an album and perform more live shows in the coming months, with the actor sharing which songs she sang in her first performance, “In my mind, I was telling myself that I’ve learned this. Have done for. I wanted to try music, see how the lights worked, how much technology and energy was required. It was like going to school! For this show, I wanted to present songs that meant something to me. I have sung my first song, Pareshaan, Maana Ke Hum Yaar, from Ishaqzaade, which I sang in a studio. I also sang my grandfather’s favorite song Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na Karo. Hey Mahi, my biggest hit till date was also a part of it. I will remember this moment for the rest of my life.”
