Books are a window to the world, they can be calming and entertaining and can be the best wellness tool for any age. And for Inaaya Naumi Kemmu, they are something she loves. Mom Soha Ali Khan reveals more about why her daughter loves reading, how they both spend time together doing this activity and how they have a special corner for books at home.
‘Reading is screen-free and creates a digital detox’
Soha, who attended the Museum of Solutions’ Peek a Book children’s festival on February 24, stressed on how reading to a child is a good habit to have. “I think, first of all, it’s screen-free and therefore a digital detox. Right now, Anya is at that age where she’s learning to read on her own. I think it helps her imagination, her vocabulary. Helps, helps his creativity.” It helps him with discipline, helps him relax at the end of the day. I think reading is a good habit. Although she finds it challenging, she reads books by herself during the day. But sometimes at night I teach him. This is what the actor says, “Wherever we are in the world, we have a great time.”
As a parent, how does this make him feel?
Soha says, “I enjoy reading to Inaaya. I think I like the sound of her voice, first and foremost and it’s our intimate time at the end of the day when it’s just her and I. We’re a Get together and read a few chapters of a book. Sure, there are times when it’s not always going to be stress-reducing because she says there’s another chapter, another chapter or something in the story that excites him and irritates him and then it is necessary calm him down. Yes, reading is not always comfortable. Sometimes, you are in a hurry or sometimes your throat hurts. But this is our It has become such a habit that whether it is rain or shine, I have to read it every night.”
‘Inaaya has a huge library, which now spills out of her bedroom’
While her younger child brings books from the school library, Soha says she has a large collection of books at home too. “Anya has quite a large library that now opens out of her bedroom. So, there are bookshelves in her room now and it’s on our staircase now too. Some of the books that are out of print, she’s kept them because They have good memories. Some old books we recycle or donate. This way it is good that we get a chance to share books,” says Soha.
Of course, there are some favorites. “She likes the Thea Stilton and Eva Wingdale series as well as Ruskin Bond and other short stories,” Soha said. “How the Onion Got Its Layers” by Sudha Murthy and “The Grand Chapati Contest” by author Asha Nehemia are some of her favourites. Some of them are more visual, so she’s attracted to the covers or the pictures.”
