Ryan Gosling addressed his hot pink affection for his Barbie character Ken during a Saturday Night Live monologue with Emily Blunt on April 13.
Putting their Barbenheimer controversy aside, Gosling and Blunt, who have teamed up for the upcoming action comedy The Fall Guy, united over their sadness at not being able to follow through on their former blockbuster. Ryan initially expressed his opposition vigorously, claiming that his conversations would no longer center around Kane.
Yet, after announcing his “breakup” with the Barbie character when they “went too far,” he quickly retracted his statement and admitted, “I’m actually going to talk about it. ..a little bit.” And they did just that, but on song, reimagining Taylor Swift’s All’s Too Well.
Ryan Gosling’s SNL monologue
Using the powers devised by the “Great Taylor Swift” to fully recover from the breakup, Gosling returned to his La La Land incarnation, and remained faithful to his Kane style with the fur coat. As a piano slid in, she expressed her pain with melody.
“I tore Venice Beach to pieces, it’s true. My clothes were tight, but something about that spandex felt so right. I left my rollerblades in that big pink house, but I’ve still got that fur coat, and I’ll wear it right now,” Gosling said, admitting, “I was just Ken, and now I’m just Ryan.”

Blunt intervenes to break his rage and orders him to take off his fur coat. Guiding him that it was time to move on, he firmly admitted, “Ken is dead,” when she turned on him as proof of his new role as a battle-wounded stuntman in The Fall Guy. Attacked by a billion objects.
Despite being angry at him for constantly singing about Kane, she also went back to her sweet Oppenheimer memories when the moment was to be dedicated to promoting their upcoming action film.
The pair again went back to their Barbenheimer rivalry until Blunt also took a trip down memory lane with All’s Too Well. “The father of the atomic bomb and a bottle of jack. I used to be a drunken wife of a man in a hat,” she sings.
The Fall Guy co-stars then continued their duetting,
Ryan Gosling: “I miss all my Kanes”
Emily Blunt: “And I miss Cillian Murphy.”
With: “And you should really see The Fall Guy, but I can’t let Ken go…”

And the song continued. Apparently, Kitty and Ken are “messed up to impress”. The sweet duet concludes with them bidding farewell to their characters, with Gosling immediately declaring: “Kane will never die!”
In addition to hosting SNL for the third time, Gosling joined his Barbie co-star, Kate McKinnon, for another Close Encounters sketch. She debuted the original segment with Cecily Strong in 2015. The La La Land actor also revisited his memorable 2017 Papyrus SNL sketch for the sequel.
His new 2024 film The Fall Guy with Emily Blunt will be released in theaters on May 3.
