Shriya Pilgaonkar talks about her OTT success this year with The Broken News 2 and Taaza Khabar 2 and being affected by the label of the medium
On the digital medium, actress Shriya Pilgaonkar has got double the success with two sequels of her show coming on the web and getting love-The Broken News Season 2 And Taaza Khabar season 2The latter came out just a month ago and the actor feels “given how much love people have given it, its success feels like the success of a commercial film”.
While she is proud of her work on OTT, Shriya Pilgaonkar insists that this is why she is classified as an OTT actor. “The film industry makes you nervous right away,” she says. I don’t think people make the effort to think creatively about what they can do with you as an actor, which is why somewhere as actors, we’re spoon-fed people. Let’s take responsibility to feed what we are capable of. At times, I realize that in interviews, people introduce me as an OTT actor, but I feel these labels are not very important today at the end of the day.
The actor further adds, “I think as an artiste today, both credibility and equity are important in showbiz. If people talk about me as a credible actor, that’s important. But I think there has to be a balance.” However, Shriya admits that the treatment of projects also varies according to the medium: “I see a difference in doing a hit OTT series versus a hit film. Perception still makes a big difference. It’s still very different because of the way PR or mounting of films is done.
Shriya believes that the release of most of her projects on OTT is a coincidence. “Most of the times you don’t know whether your film will be theatrical or going to be on OTT. Over the past five years, the industry has gone through its own journey. Some big films did not work or could not work. So, my priority with regard to selection of work has been based on a script and coincidentally, the scripts I have liked have been on streaming platforms,” she says, “however, on OTT too, because I have “With the series format, it’s important for me to balance it with films, even if it’s not dramatic.”
