Talking about the selection of roles for projects, Shekhar Suman has compared himself with Dilip Kumar and Aamir Khan. Speaking to The Indian Express, the actor said that he “doesn’t work just for looks”. Shekhar Suman is starring in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, but he doesn’t want to say that he has “comebacked” with the web series. He was last seen in Bhoomi (2017). The actor said, “I am basically a theater actor. This is never a return. You’re just waiting for the right role to come your way. There may be a gap, you give it a gap, because the role is going to excite me. I don’t work just to show that I am a part of 10 OTT series, five films.

He further said, “I have learned from Dilip Kumar saab. He used to do a film probably every two-three years. Aamir Khan… they all carry themselves in such a way that people remain thirsty to see them. ”There is no point in wallowing in mediocrity, it is very painful for an actor to realize in the middle of a show or a film that you have made a mistake.
When asked if he felt pressure to come forward to get good work, Shekhar replied in the negative. He further stated that although he has a desire to “be there, to be seen around”, he wanted to do something that would challenge him.

Shekhar Suman plays the role of Zulfikar Ahmed in the web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Heeramandi releases on Netflix on May 1.
