Donald Trump-Asim Muni Lunch at the White House
US President Donald Trump hosted Pakistan’s Chief General Asim Munir for a private lunch at the White House, marking a rare high-level engagement between the military leadership of the two countries.
The unprecedented meeting reduced disagreement with India over the President’s claim that he stopped the struggle between the nuclear-cystical South Asian enemies last month.
The meeting held on 18 June was focused on the discussion about regional security challenges, anti -terrorism efforts and geopolitical mobility developed in South Asia.
Lunch was the first time a US President hosted the head of the Pakistan Army, was widely considered as the most powerful person in the country, which was in an unpublished White House by senior Pakistani civilian officers.
While the official agenda of Trump-Munir dialogue remained confidential, lunch was seen by Washington as an attempt to maintain open channels with Pakistan’s military establishment, even there were concerns about terrorism and cross-border extremism.
The meeting lasted for more than an hour and included senior US defense and diplomatic officials, outlining strategic importance on their relations with Pakistan’s military leadership.
Donald Trump said he was honored to meet Asim Munir and discussed Iran, which he said that Pakistan knew the best. Trump told reporters that he had thanked Munir for ending the war with India, for which he also praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whom he spoke to on Tuesday night.
“Two very smart people decided not to live with that war; it could be an atomic war.”
9/11 and Osama bin Laden: a permanent shade for America
Shashi Tharoor called for a “Osama Episode” to underline the gravity of Pakistan’s previous works in harassing terrorists.
Tharoor said, “People in America could not forget the Osama episode so soon.”
Osama bin Laden was referred to in terms of a decade hunting, which was found hidden in a safe house near a Pakistani Army Camp in Abbottabad. Tharur said, “It is guilty of hiding this man of Pakistan until he was found in the end … easily cannot forget and cannot be forgiven by Americans,” Tharoor said.
Osama bin Laden, the founder of the terrorist group al-Qaeda, mastered the 11 September 2001 attacks on the United States, kidnapping four commercial airplanes and crashed them into an area in the World Trade Center, Pentagon and Pennsylvania.
These coordinated attacks killed around 3,000 people and marked the deadliest terrorist incident on US soil, inspiring America to launch a war on terror. After nearly a decade in hiding, bin Laden was located and killed by American special forces in the 2011 raid in Pakistan.
