Actor Sharad Kelkar was in Hyderabad on Tuesday to promote the Disney+Hotstar animated series, Baahubali: Crown of Blood with SS Rajamouli and the rest of the team of the series. The actor, who lent his voice to the lead character Prabhas in the hugely successful Baahubali films, did the same for the series. He spoke to the press about the complex process of dubbing for an animated series, from re-voicing the character to trusting the new team. ‘It was difficult not to keep Prabhas as a reference’
When Sharad took the mic, he looked nervous and thanked Rajamouli for making him the voice of Baahubali in Hindi years ago. He said, “I am nervous because I am sharing the stage with Rajamouli sir for the first time.” He further added, “I have to thank him for creating the voice of Baahubali. My life changed after the films were released. From a stammering boy in a small town to becoming the voice of Bahubali, it has been a journey.”
Sharad revealed that when he entered the entertainment industry, he never thought that he would be at a position where his voice would receive so much love. “I never thought that my voice would be liked so much, I had not even acted in films. So, when they called me back to dub for Crown of Blood, I was confident, it felt like a homecoming. In fact, it’s not just me, it’s all the actors who have dubbed for the Hindi version of the movies that have been dubbed for this series.
However, the actor says that despite being a familiar character, it was initially difficult for him to dub for Baahubali. “Unlike last time, this time I did not have Prabhas as a reference. it was difficult. But I kept thinking how would he do it, how would he say something and that helped me dub. Hope the audience will like it.
About Bahubali: Blood Crown
Baahubali: Crown of Blood is an animated series that will stream in multiple languages on Disney+Hotstar from May 17. The producers describe it as, “a dark chapter in the history of the Mahishmati empire that became its greatest challenge and shaped the future of its two protagonists, Baahubali and Bhallaladeva.” Rajamouli told that the story shown in the series takes place during the events shown in the Baahubali films. He also handed over the reins to Sharad Devranjan, who served as the show’s producer.
