Shantanu explained how the 1930s served as a source of inspiration for the fashion duo.
“The only thing that came to her rescue was her cinematic allure. The whole red carpet siren thing was born in that era, and I think the 1930s has always been a big attraction for Nikhil and me as a brand, because that’s where the fierce, bold and fearless woman came from. I think that’s how we’ve always thought of our women,” he told PTI.
Nikhil said, “It was the flavor of the 1930s, we love telling stories, and it was really about a glamorous, sophisticated woman moving forward in all her glory without the burden of tradition. It was specifically for her mood, experience and the kind of woman she is. If you look at the history of the era, after the depression in the 1930s, there was really no escape route for women then.”
Lakme Fashion Week began on Wednesday and will conclude today with the finale showcase of ace designer Tarun Tahiliani.
