Ashvatthama: The Saga Continues has been shelved
Shahid was to play the lead role in this ambitious project. According to Mid-Day, the project has been put on hold due to budget constraints and logistical challenges. The mythological action film was announced in March. The film is being directed by Kannada filmmaker Sachin B Ravi. It was designed as one of Amazon Prime Video’s most ambitious productions in India.
Ashwatthama is being produced by Vashu Bhagnani’s Pooja Entertainment in association with Amazon Studios. It is being said that the budget is over 500 crores.
“The scale of the project was huge. The idea was to create something that could compete with international fantasy-action films. Ashwatthama was to be shot in several countries. But as we started working on logistics and coordinating shoots at international locations, it became clear that staying within the budget would be a serious challenge. Pooja Entertainment’s debt became another big factor,” said an insider from the production team.
Shahid had already started physical training for the film. It was reported that the film would be set in the present day, featuring mythological themes inspired by the great warrior of the Mahabharata, Ashwatthama.
“Given the current market situation, studios are being cautious about greenlighting mega-budget films. A project like Ashwatthama comes with a lot of risk,” said the source.
on the work front
On the professional front, Shahid was last seen in Teri Baton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, which also starred Kriti Sanon and Dimple Kapadia. Next, he will be seen in Deva directed by Roshan Andrews, co-starring Pooja Hegde and Kubbra Sait. The film, which was earlier scheduled to release in October this year, will now release in theaters on February 14 next year. According to the makers, Deva is the story of a talented but rebellious police officer investigating a high-profile case. As he digs deeper into the case, he discovers a web of deceit and betrayal, leading him down an exciting and dangerous path.
