Meanwhile, Karnataka and Kerala have witnessed heavy rains this week. Uttara Kannada district deputy commissioner (DC) Laxmipriya had already declared a holiday for all schools and PU colleges in Karwar, Ankola, Kumta, Honnavar, Bhatkal, Sirsi, Siddapur, Yellapur, Dandeli and Joida taluks on Monday, citing a ‘red alert’ issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), PTI reported. The KSNDMC said the vigorous monsoon conditions over Karnataka were due to the existing offshore trough along the Maharashtra-north Kerala coast as well as the cyclonic circulation over west-central Bay of Bengal off coastal Andhra Pradesh, which is bringing more moisture over Karnataka.
Kerala is also in the grip of heavy monsoon rains. In view of the continuous rains, district authorities of Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasargod have declared holiday in educational institutions on Monday.
