The Telangana government has announced the closure of schools and colleges in Mulugu district in view of Medaram Jathara, the famous trade fair of South India. District Collector Tripathi has issued an order declaring a four-day holiday from February 21 to February 24, 2024, for both government and private educational institutions in Mulugu district. After this closure, regular classes will resume from February 26, 2024. Often known as the Telangana Kumbh Mela, the Medaram Sammakka Saralamma Jatara is celebrated as the largest tribal fair in Asia.
The Medaram Jathara festival is celebrated biennially in Medaram village of Tadvai mandal, nestled amidst the dense forests of Mulugu district. Designated as a state festival in 1998, this year’s Jathara is scheduled to take place from February 21 to February 24, 2024.
To assist devotees traveling to Medaram for the half-yearly festival, the Union Minister of Tourism and Culture has scheduled additional trains on February 21 and 24. These helicopter services, operated by Bengaluru-based Thumbi Aviation, started on February 17, reports Times Now.
