The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has ordered all schools in Jammu region to close all schools by August 30 to prioritize the safety and welfare of students, teachers and school employees due to heavy rains and floods till August 30. Director of School Education, Dr. Naseem Javed Chaudhary issued an order on Thursday, directed the heads of institutions to consider the operation of online classes, especially for students of classes 9 to 12, where any appropriate infrastructure and internet connectivity are available.
The director said, “Keeping the safety and welfare of students, teachers and employees as the highest priority, it has been ordered that all government and private schools in Jammu Division remain closed till August 30,” the director said in the order.
He advised the heads of institutions to find out the feasibility of operating online classes, especially from class 9 to 12, wherever suitable infrastructure and internet connectivity are available.
“It is reiterated that all the main education officers and heads of institutions should strictly follow the standard operational procedures to reopen the schools before resumption of physical classes. All school officials should ensure that the school premises completely clean, cleanliness and safety inspection before reopening,” Chaudhary said.
After record rains in the Jammu region in the last two days, the death tolls from rain -related incidents increased to 45, most of which were victims of a landslide on the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage route. However, with rain on Wednesday, relief operations have gained momentum, PTI said.
He said that the situation is constantly being monitored, and the front directions will be released based on the weather and ground conditions.
These measures have been implemented due to continuous heavy rains in various parts of the Jammu Division, causing many seasonal disruptions that severely affect the functioning of daily life and educational institutions.
All schools in Punjab will also be closed on Saturday. Due to heavy rainfall predictions by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), all government and private schools, colleges and other educational institutions will remain closed in Punjab this week, Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann had earlier announced.
