Heavy rains in North India have disrupted life, forcing schools in UP, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Himachal, Jammu and Chandigarh to be closed on September 3 due to security reasons.

School holiday on 3 September: Heavy rains have excluded normal life from gear in many parts of North India, forcing the state administration to close schools for security reasons. From Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand to Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Chandigarh, schools will remain closed on 3 September. This step comes after the Meteorological Department issued a red and orange alert in many districts.
Uttar pradesh
In UP, Rain Alert is mainly for western districts. Schools in Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Aligarh, Kasganj, Pilibit, Baghpat, Shamli, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr and Ghaziabad will remain closed. In Meerut and Muzaffarnagar, all schools up to class 8 have been ordered to be closed due to disrupting public life.
Noida and Greater Noida
All schools in Gautam Buddha Nagar from nursery to class 12 will remain closed. This order applies to government, government-aid, CBSE, ICSE and Madrasa Board schools.
Ghaziabad
Schools in Ghaziabad are also closed for all classes up to 12. The authorities have asked the parents to monitor the weather updates and follow the advice.
Uttarakhand
With the risk of landslides and floods, schools in Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Nainital and many Kumaon and Garhwal districts will remain closed. In Chamoli and Nanital, schools were already closed, and now closed until 3 September.
Punjab
Conditions like floods have forced Punjab to close all schools, colleges, universities and polytechnics by 3 September. Rivers, including Sutlage, Beas and Ravi, are flowing above the danger mark. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that steps were taken to protect students and employees.
Himachal Pradesh
Heavy rains, landslide risk, and overflow rivers have motivated school and college closure in Shimla, Kangra, Mandi, Sirmaur, Una, Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur and Lahaul-SpT. Shimla is under a red warning.

Jammu
The schools of Jammu Division will remain closed on 3 September. Officials have asked institutions to conduct online classes so that studies are not affected. Kathua, Jammu, Udhampur and Rasi are expected to receive heavy rainfall.
Chandigarh
All schools in Chandigarh will remain closed after more than 140 mm of rainfall in the last few days. More rainfall is expected.
