Papa Don’t Preach is known for its maximalist, yet strong femininity brand of power dressing and Sobhita represents exactly that in this black pre-draped saree gown. The all-back look features a thigh-high slit, highlighted with 3D golden flowers on the plunging blouse. This number makes for a very eye-catching piece on reserved drama.
Samantha and Amy Jackson’s fashion face-off at Kresha Bajaj
Samantha loves the old red saree, but it’s nice to add a twist from time to time. And that’s exactly what this readymade saree by Kresha Bajaj has to offer. The pleats are defined yet asymmetrical, the thigh-high slit defines the silhouette and the lace-lined blouse with vibrant red sheer inlay is a sultry yet classy act.
In fact this clean and balanced look was also adopted by Amy Jackson in what was an unexpected fashion faceoff.
Special Mention: Priyanka Chopra and Kriti Sanon
Reworked saris are perhaps one of the strongest examples when it comes to fashion and Priyanka Chopra and Kriti Sanon’s looks from last year’s NMACC gala confirm this statement. Priyanka’s unique gown was crafted by couturier Amit Agarwal from a 60-year-old Banarasi brocade sari. Although the outfit had pleats and a pallu, neither was as elaborate as you might expect. Add to that the thigh-high slit and bedazzled bustier and we are sold!
Coming to the other black and gold regalia on this list, Kriti’s Monisha Jaising saree gown was also crafted from gorgeous Banarasi weaves, featuring a cut out bodice, hip-high slit and an off-the-shoulder cape. The look resembled a saree but was actually nothing of the sort and that’s all there is to it for your masterclass on fusion dressing.
