Delhi High Court has issued summons to Shahrukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment and Netflix regarding Aryan Khan’s show The Ba**as of Bollywood.
Former NCB officer Sameer Wankhede claimed in the Delhi High Court that he, his wife and his sister are becoming the target of trolling after the release of Aryan Khan’s web series The Ba**ads of Bollywood. Wankhede has sued the show and Netflix for defamation as he claims it is a character that parodies him.
Delhi HC issues summons to Red Chillies, Netflix
Following the hearing on Wednesday, the Delhi High Court issued notices to Red Chillies Entertainment and Netflix on former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officer Sameer Wankhede’s suit accusing them of defamation over his web series, The Ba**ads of Bollywood. This series has been produced and directed by Aryan Khan, son of superstar Shahrukh Khan.
Wankhede had filed his suit in the Delhi High Court last month, after which the court had dismissed his plea as ‘not maintainable’. After the former NCB officer filed an amended suit, the court issued summons to the defendants. “We appreciate that there is a reason on your part for approaching this court, but there is a procedure to be followed,” the court said.
Wankhede raised questions on trolling
Appearing for Wankhede, senior advocate Sandeep Sethi said, “In the context of the series, there are posts trolling me, my wife and my sister. Prima facie defamatory. It is shocking. They (defendants) are certainly not defending those posts.”
The Ba**ads of Bollywood, produced by Shah Rukh’s Red Chillies, was released on Netflix last month. Satirizing the Hindi film industry, the show features a ‘plain-clothed policeman’ who raids a Bollywood party and detains an actor there, even though he is not found to be in possession of any drugs. After the release of the show, many viewers said that the policeman resembled former NCB officer Wankhede. In his suit, Wankhede claims that the show has been “deliberately conceptualized and executed” with the aim of tarnishing his reputation in a “colorful and prejudicial manner.”
History of Sameer Wankhede and Aryan Khan
Wankhede was the same officer who arrested Aryan Khan after a raid on a cruise ship in 2021. Aryan spent three weeks in jail, but all charges against him were later dropped. This Bollywood scoundrel has taken his first step in showbiz.
