In the words of Aamir Khan, ‘Brother, you will never drown’. So as Salman Khan turns 59, here’s remembering a moment from that time – his reunion with Shahrukh
“Mere Karan Arjun Aayenge” took on a whole new meaning when in 2013, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan ended their years of cold war by finding themselves face to face with a warm embrace. What inspired it? Nobody knows. Why were they avoiding each other like the plague? On that front the knowledge is even more hazy and vague. But one thing is for sure, when two of the biggest names of Hindi cinema – and “the last of the superstars” as Shah Rukh rightly puts it – have a very unexpected public reunion, the crowd is sure to go wild.
Salman and Shahrukh’s rise to greatness began around the same time and the two starred in three films together, the most prominent of which was undoubtedly the evergreen. Karan Arjun (1995), after Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) and We are yours, we respect you. (2002). There was always a warm camaraderie between the two which was reflected on-screen as well as off-screen. So what changed? Rumor has it that at Katrina Kaif’s birthday party in 2008, an argument – the details of which have never been made clear and seemingly have little chance of coming to light – led them to stay away from each other completely. Inspired to. This came as a shock to both of their fans, after which they took it upon themselves to promote their respective idols appropriately, an effort that continues to this day, and involves a lot of volatile emotions.
But as suddenly as Shahrukh and Salman put an end to their relationship, they showed equal haste in getting back together. Now for context, National Congress Party’s Baba Siddiqui, now deceased, who was shot dead by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in October this year, used to host one of the biggest Iftar parties year after year. Were known, which was indeed full of stars. The year was 2013 and the stars were clearly aligned, because as soon as Salman and Shahrukh came face to face, both of them embraced heartily. And just like that, the hatchet was buried.
Their association since then has been comparatively reserved but still full of warmth and mutual respect. For example, Shahrukh did a cameo for Salman tube light (2017) And brother returned the favor to King Khan Zero (2018). The gestures continued pathan (2023) and tiger 3 (2023). On the personal front, Salman apparently shares a very warm relationship with Shahrukh’s family too. When Shahrukh’s eldest son Aryan Khan was arrested by the anti-drugs agency, Salman was the first to stand in favor of Shahrukh. A fond memory is the moment she shared with Gauri Khan, Suhana Khan and Aryan on the red carpet of the launch of Nita Mukesh Ambani Culture Center in March last year. Actually, the very respectful conversation between Aryan and Salman won hearts.
We wish Salman a very happy birthday!
