NCERT has removed all references to the Mughals and the Delhi Sultanate from class 7 textbooks. Instead of new chapters on Indian dynasties, government initiatives like ‘Holy Geography,’ Maha Kumbh, and Make in India and Beti Bachao, BT Padho have been added, as reported by PTI.
Earlier, NCERT had reduced sections on the Mughals and the Delhi Sultanate, including chapters on Tughlaq, Khalzis, Maluks and Lodi dynasties, as well as a table on the achievements of the Mughal emperors during syllabus tips in 2022-23. The new textbook has now completely excluded these references.
The new social science textbook “Exporting Society: India and Beyond” includes new chapters on ancient Indian dynasties such as Magadha, Maurya, Sungas and Satavan, which highlights “Indian ethics”. It also has a chapter called “How the Land Beez Sacred”, which examines holy places and pilgrims and Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Jorostrianism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Sikhs and pilgrims like Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism and Sikhs. This chapter introduces the concept of “Holy Geography”, details the network of places such as 12 geotoringus, Char Dham Yatra, and “Shakti Pithus”. PTI reported that it also refers to places such as the confluence of the river, mountains and forests.
The revised books described India as a land of pilgrims in the quotation of Jawaharlal Nehru, which highlights the journey from Badrinath and Amarnath to Kanyakumari. In addition, the textbook claims that Varna-Jati The system initially provided social stability, but later rigid, especially under British rule, leading to inequalities.
The Maha Kumbh Mela held at Prayagraj earlier this year is also mentioned in the textbooks, taking into account the participation of about 660 million people, although it leaves a stampede in which 30 pilgrims died and many were injured. References for government initiatives like Make in India, BT Bachao Beti Padho and Atal Tunnel have also been included in the new textbook.
A chapter has been added to the Constitution of India to mention that there was a time when citizens were not allowed to fly the national flag into their homes, which changed after the Supreme Court’s decision in 2004, which confirmed it as part of the fundamental right to freedom of expression.
The English textbook “Garibvi” has 9 of the 15 stories, poems and pieces of stories by Indian writers or with Indian content, including Rabindranath Tagore, APJ Abdul Kalam and Ruskin Bond. The earlier textbook “Honeycomb” had 17 writing, with four by Indian writers.
NCERT officials said that these textbooks are only the first part, with the second part expected in the coming months. However, Hey did not confirm whether the removed parts will be included in the later release, the report states. The newly released textbooks aligned in school education, emphasizing Indian traditions, philosophy, knowledge systems and local references with the National Course Infrastructure (NCFSE) 2020 for school education and National Course Straits (NCFSE) 2023.
