Karnataka Minister Shivnand Patil on Friday resigned as MLA UT Khadar, President of MLA Assembly from Baswan Bagwadi section.
He said PTI Informed The speaker is yet to decide to resign.
The Congress leader holds textiles, sugarcane development and agricultural marketing portfolio. However, he has made a special request to the speaker.

According to the report, Shivanand Patil has requested the speaker to accept his resignation, if he also leaves Yatnal and his resignation is accepted.
Patil said in his resignation letter that Yatnal had challenged him, stating that he would resign as an MLA from his Vijayapura city assembly constituency and contest against him from his Basavan Bagwadi section.
“I have accepted his challenge and decided to contest against him in the election. Therefore, I am resigning as an MLA from Basavan Bagwadi, which I am representing,” PTI The report told him.
He said, “Therefore, I request you (speaker) to accept their resignation only after Basangoda Patil Yatnal, as challenged, resigned from his MLA post and his resignation has been accepted,” he said.
Talking to reporters in Bengaluru, Patil said that Yatnal had fixed Friday’s deadline to resign, and he had resigned earlier, accepting the challenge, PTI Said.
“I have accepted the challenge and resigned. I only request him (Yatnal) that – you asked me to contest elections against me. You also resign as an MLA from Vijaypura city, as I have. If you want me to contest from there (Vijayapura city) then I will contest from there or if you want to contest from Baswana Bagwadi, I said.
“Let it end here. Either I or it should survive politically. The people of Vijpura or Basavan Bagwadi will decide. So I have resigned. I have requested the speaker to accept my resignation one hour in advance to accept my resignation. Let’s accept my resignation before you. Let’s decide people.”
Patil said that his decision was purely personal, and it had nothing to do with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah or the Congress party.
He said, “I have no pain about losing a ministerial position. When I left as an MLA, I would naturally leave me as a minister,” he said.
Yatnal won the 2023 assembly elections as a BJP candidate from Vijaypura City Segment. He was recently expelled by the BJP from the primary membership of the party for six years for repeated violations of party discipline.

Chairman Khadher said that Patil’s resignation would be investigated, and a decision will be taken as per the constitution and rules.
He said, “He (Patil) resigned, saying that it was a question of his dignity, as a challenge was thrown on him. Let’s see what happens,” he said. PTI,
For the question that the format of resignation was not according to the rules, the speaker said that it would be investigated.
