In an interview with HT lifestyle, Dr. Gagan Raina, beauty physician, laser expert, and clinical director at the Erisia aesthetics clinic in Mumbai, shared what red light therapy does, its benefits, and most important, a comprehensive guide at any possible risk.

Introduction to red light therapy, Dr. Raina explained, “Red light therapy, also known as low-level laser therapy, is a non-invasive treatment that uses wavelengths ranging from 630nm to 700nm. Concerns, from aging signs to inflammation and hair thinning.

Dr. Raina listed the benefits of red light therapy:

  • Improves the elasticity of the skin.
  • Reduce fine lines, wrinkles and age spots.
  • Promote collagen production for a young appearance.
  • Cools inflammation, making it beneficial for conditions such as acne, rosesia and sensitive skin.
  • AIDS in scar treatment and pigmentation improvement by accelerating skin regeneration.
  • For hair health, it stimulates Rome, increases the scalp circulation, and helps in cases of hair thinning.

Is red light therapy safe?

Dr. Raina assured that it is generally safe, but it is important to take into account some mild effects and precautionary methods. They shared them:

  • Light redness or irritation can sometimes occur, especially in individuals with sensitive skin.
  • The eye can be uncomfortable with direct exposure, so protective measures are advised.
  • Excessive use does not necessarily give better results and a professional should be contacted with guidance.

Dr. Raina explained, “Some individuals should be careful before passing through red light therapy. Pregnant individuals are advised to consult a medical professional due to limited research on its effects during pregnancy.
