Actress Raveena Tandon is happy that she has managed to remain relevant for so many years. The 90s actress, who visited The Hindustan Times, opened up about her career and personal life.
Inspiration for her sartorial choices Tandon said that fashion is a cycle and the trends of the 90s are back. “I’m wearing all my ’90s clothes again, and luckily I fit into them. i still have the leather shirt Sheher Ki LadkiScorpion denim jacket Stone Flowers (1991). Imagine Rasha wearing them now,” she said.
Tandon, who is currently seen playing the role of Indrani Kothari in the web series Revenge karma callingRevealed to be an Indian remake of an American show Revenge Came to him a decade ago, but for TV.
“Then we had to shelve it, because first of all, I was not ready to play the role of Indrani professionally. Secondly, the kind of dates they wanted were many. TV is a long format. “The series has made it sleeker and a little more compact,” Tandon said.
The 49-year-old can be happy with this karma calling, but either way, she wouldn’t be in favor of remaking any of her fan-favorite films. There is talk of a sequel to the classic comedy Apna Apna Andaz (1994) specifically, Tandon said that a remake is not a good option. According to him, “Once something becomes a classic, it is done. The remake may be good on its own level, but there will be comparisons.
However, she seemed okay with remaking the songs, as they make the tracks more relevant with the current generation. “The remix adds a new lease of life to the song. Many of my songs have been remixed and I own them again. I believe this cannot happen with films. Everything has its own time and magic,” reiterated Tandon. His songs Tip Tip Barsa Paani and Sheher Ki Ladki have been remixed earlier also.
When asked about her peak, when she would rush between multiple sets, Tandon agreed that she used to shoot 12 films in a single day. “In those days, there was clearly a pay disparity. What the hero got, you probably get after doing 20 films. We actresses used to run from one studio to another,” she said.
Tandon, the mother of four children, including two adopted daughters, said there is a lot to learn from Gen Z. Describing her as resilient and strong, he said that Rasha was more mature than her age.
“I get nervous before my release and wonder who will lecture me. My husband says to Rasha, ‘Are you 18 or 81?’ Gen Z is more aware and exposed. They are AI (Artificial Intelligence) themselves!” He said laughing.
Tandon, who has been called the “ravishing Raveena”, seemed in no mood to slow down. Actor, who has been a part of projects like Matri, KGF 2, Aranyaka And as a judge of many reality shows, he shared that the trend of delaying the final episodes or seasons of web shows should stop, as the burden falls heavily on the producers.
“Producers and OTT platforms must bridge this gap. You have built such a big set, invested so much that there is no point in breaking it and then investing money in it. Even manufacturers want this because it makes better business sense. This also weighs heavily on the channel’s profits,” she said.
