Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat Piyush Goyal on Thursday hit back at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for demanding a probe into the June 4 stock market crash. Goyal termed Rahul Gandhi’s claims as “baseless” and alleged that the Congress leader was “hatching a conspiracy.”
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that Narendra Modi and Amit Shah were “directly involved” in the “biggest stock market scam”. Gandhi also demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into it.
The BJP leader also dismissed Gandhi’s demand for a JPC probe into the matter as “baseless” and said he keeps making useless comments. “This is baseless,” Piyush Goyal said.
He said, “Frustrated by the defeat of the opposition, Rahul Gandhi is conspiring to mislead the investors.”
Goyal said that The figure of Rs 30 lakh crore highlighted by Gandhi was an imaginary amount and had no connection with trade.
Goyal said, “He (Gandhi) does not understand. That is why the people of India do not trust him.” Citing the huge boom in the stock market during the BJP government’s tenure, he said retail and domestic investors benefited the most.
He said, “I think Rahul Gandhi should be worried about investors’ fears because when Congress was performing better than expected, the market crashed. Now people are confident that the Modi government is coming back and the market has stabilised and is regaining its previous heights.”
The trading value was about Goyal said that assets worth Rs 6,840 crore have been seized. He said that while Congress was seen increasing its seats on the day of the Lok Sabha election results on June 4, its seats fell.
Asked about Prime Minister Modi and Shah’s comments on the stock market movement, Goyal said every party makes claims about its success and the Congress also did the same.
Saturday’s exit poll forecasts sent stock markets surging on June 3. The NSE Nifty 50 and the S&P BSE Sensex rose 3.3 per cent and 3.4 per cent, respectively, just a day before the Election Commission begins counting votes and announcing results.
Modi and several BJP ministers had confidently declared that the market would boom after the election results were announced on June 4. Amit Shah had even advised in a television interview, “Buy before June 4, the market will boom.”
