Dating App Online Scams: The cases of cheating people on the pretext of friendship on online dating platforms are increasing rapidly in the country. In the latest case, a shocking case has come to light from Bengaluru, where a 42-year-old man was defrauded of more than Rs 1.29 crore by a woman he met on the dating app Quack Quack and her associates. The matter has now reached the cyber crime police and investigation is ongoing.
How did the fraud start?
According to the FIR, complainant Jagdish C met a woman and other suspicious people on the QuackQuack app. As the conversation progressed, the accused won their trust.
Gradually he was persuaded to invest on a website which claimed to be a platform offering high returns in the international stock market. The woman, identified as Meghna Reddy, emotionally influenced the victim by saying that she wanted to build an old-age home in his father’s name. Believing this story, Jagdish started doing transactions one after the other.
Rs 1.29 crore spent in 2 days
According to the police report, the victim sent Rs 1,29,33,253 to the accounts given by the fraudsters through several RTGS and NEFT transactions between November 5 and 6. After payment, when he neither received any return nor his money came back, he realized that he was cheated. After this he immediately lodged a complaint with North CEN Crime Police.
Police registered a case
Police have registered a case on Jagdish’s complaint. The investigation is being conducted under relevant sections of the IT Act 2000 and the Indian Justice Code 2023.
