Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin achieved a record victory in Russia’s elections on Sunday. With this victory his already strong hold on power became stronger. He said it showed the country was right to stand up to the West and send troops to Ukraine. Upon completing his new term, he will surpass Joseph Stalin and become Russia’s longest-ruling leader.
Let us tell you that Putin, a former KGB lieutenant colonel, first came to power in 1999. He made it clear that the outcome should send a message to the West that its leaders would have to compromise with a courageous Russia, whether in war or peace. This result means that 71-year-old Putin is set for a new six-year term. Upon completing which, he will surpass Joseph Stalin and become Russia’s longest serving leader.

According to news agency Reuters, according to an exit poll by pollster Public Opinion Foundation (FOAM), Putin won 87.8% of the votes, which is the biggest result in Russia’s post-Soviet history. The Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) has put Putin at 87%. The United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, and other countries said the vote was neither free nor fair due to the imprisonment and censorship of political opponents.

According to partial results, Communist candidate Nikolai Kharitonov came in second place with less than 4% of the vote, newcomer Vladislav Davankov came in third and ultra-nationalist Leonid Slutsky came in fourth. Putin told supporters in a victory speech in Moscow that he would give priority to solving tasks related to Russia’s “special military operation” in Ukraine and strengthening the Russian military.
