The protests over the BPSC 70th preliminary exam took a shocking turn on Wednesday when teacher Guru Rehman attempted suicide to show solidarity with the students protesting against the Bihar Public Service Commission. Rehman slit his wrists and wrote letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Draupadi Murmu, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Governor Arif Mohammad Khan demanding re-examination of the 70th Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) preliminary examination. News agency ANI.
The 70th BPSC exam is embroiled in controversy due to allegations of paper leak. However, BPSC has not canceled the exam yet. Chairman Ravi Parmar had earlier rejected the allegations and said that no irregularities were found.
Guru Rahman said, “I request Nitish Kumar to take action against Speaker Ravi Parmar.” He said that earlier he had written a letter opposing the removal of Article 370 and this time he is writing for the students.
The matter is currently in the High Court, the hearing of which is to be held on January 31. Rehman has urged the government and BPSC not to publish the exam results until the problem is resolved. The issue has attracted the attention of prominent personalities, including Rahul Gandhi, who met the protesting students during his visit to Patna.
On his Patna visit, Rahul Gandhi met the protesting candidates and said that Bihar has become a hub of “paper leaks”.
Meanwhile, Jan Suraj Party chief Prashant Kishor also launched a statewide bike rally in Patna on Sunday to highlight the concerns of BPSC candidates. Kishor said the rally led by former IPS officer and youth president Anand Mishra will cover a distance of 20,000 kilometers across the state to address the “injustice” meted out to the youth of Bihar.
“We have decided to organize a bike rally that will cover a distance of 20,000 kilometers across Bihar. The purpose of the rally is to raise the issue of the youth of Bihar. The injustice that is being done to them. At least 100 bikers along with party members will lead rallies for the next two-three months, Kishor said.
Earlier, Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan met a delegation of BPSC aspirants, heard their grievances and assured them that necessary instructions would be issued to the concerned authorities. The Governor also urged Prashant Kishor, who has been fasting in support of the candidates for 12 days, to end his fast due to health concerns.
