On his ex account, Hrithik wrote, “Yes, we need to evolve into a society where we all feel equally safe. But that will take decades. Hopefully, it will happen by sensitising and empowering our sons and daughters. The next generations will be better.”
“We will get there. Eventually. But what in the meantime? Right now, justice must be done to bring a harsh stop to such atrocities. And the only way to do that is with punishments that are so severe that they strike fear into such criminals. That’s what we need. Maybe? I stand with the victim’s family in demanding justice for their daughter and I stand with all the doctors who were attacked last night,” his post further read.
Priyanka Chopra posted a BBC photo from a protest site on her Instagram Stories late Thursday night. In the photo, a protester was holding a placard that read, “If you don’t speak up, who will?” She shared the post with a sad emoji.
On her ex account, Genelia D’Souza wrote, “The monsters must be hanged!!! My soul shivers reading what the victim has gone through. A woman, a lifeguard on duty, had to face this horror in a seminar hall. My heart goes out to the family and her loved ones – I can’t even imagine how they must be coping with this tragedy.”
Kriti Sanon wrote in a post on Instagram on Thursday, “While we celebrate 78 years of our Independence and feel proud of how far we as a nation have come on the global stage… it breaks my heart to see that women are still not safe in their own country. The people who commit these inhumane acts have absolutely no fear. And even today, women are blamed for being the victims!!!”
Expressing concern over the safety of women in the country, she asked, “Nothing will change unless there is swift justice, swift punishment and most importantly better upbringing. Are we really free when our basic security is at stake??” She captioned the post, “Heavy heart and an angry soul. Didn’t feel like wishing on Independence Day today.”
On Thursday, Suhana Khan shared a message from friend Navya Naveli Nanda on her Instagram Stories. The Instagram post read, “Another horrific rape has happened in front of our eyes. First and foremost, let us pray for her and her family. Women have always played a very important role in the development of our country. The workplace, classroom and home should be an enabling and safe space for us. Men and women need to unite against mindsets and belief systems that constantly objectify women or consider them easy prey.”
“Where we go out at night or what we wear is not an indication of our right to live our lives. And for that, we should not have to live in constant fear or intimidation. While nothing can make up for the pain and suffering the doctor suffered that day, we need to take concrete steps to ensure that this never happens again. Whether it is enforcing strict laws or creating safety protocols – immediate steps must be taken. We deserve better than this. We will continue to fight for better. Because nothing and no one can ever take away the freedom and dignity of women,” it further read.
