Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Sunil Ambekar has said that many positive changes have been brought about in history textbooks and the adjective ‘great’ is no longer used to describe Mughal emperor Akbar or Mysore ruler Tipu Sultan.
Although the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has brought these changes, “no one has been removed” from these textbooks as the new generation should be aware of their cruel acts.
Ambekar addressed a gathering at the Orange City Literature Festival organized by the SGR Knowledge Foundation here on Friday.
RSS’s Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh said, “India has vast and rich resources of ancient knowledge, which if we learn and understand, can help us a lot in our lives. This rich knowledge can also be given to the world, but for this we need to focus on that knowledge as well.”
“Now, history textbooks are changing and I am very happy that NCERT took a very good initiative and made changes in the textbooks of 11 classes out of 15. Changes in the textbooks of classes 9, 10 and 12 will be introduced next year,” he said.
He said, “I can see that many good changes have been brought in the history books and more can be made in the future. But now, there is no ‘Akbar the Great’ in them (history textbooks) nor ‘Tipu Sultan the Great’ in them. Many changes have been brought in, however no one has been removed from these books because the new generation should know their cruel acts and also know because of whom we suffered and from whom we have to be free. Should.”
Some people say that this should not be said but this cannot happen and this should be told.
Ambekar also talked about Nalanda University and said that people think that only Vedas, Puranas, Ramayana and Mahabharata were taught there.
“But if you read the syllabus of Nalanda University, you will know what was taught there. It is a very old university,” he said.
Ambekar said, along with literature, Nalanda University also had 76 types of skill-based courses which were taught to all and these skills included farming, urban planning, make-up, secret agents, political governance, mechanization and many others.
According to the RSS leader, India is prospering and we should think about what our future society should be like.
People around the world kept compromising their civilization and culture in the process of development and surrendering to markets and new technologies. He said, though it brought convenience, it came at the cost of personal and family life, our values and relationships.
Talking about the Ram temple in Ayodhya, he said that some people wonder why the RSS put all its strength into the construction of this temple.
He said, “I would say it was not just about building the temple… it was built, but we should also think about our relationship with the temple as well as Lord Rama. What is our relationship with the culture of Lord Rama, what is the meaning of the culture of Rama and what is its relation with the culture of our country and our future life. It was a campaign to make people understand all this and it was very well done and I think now the youth are having self-respect about the religion.”
Ambekar praised the youth of the country and said that the new generation is very capable and has complete experience. He said, he is very patriotic and patriotism is a good thing for him.
