After the uproar, many names and laws got caught in the tricks, the first choice of Gen Z agitators Sushila Karki has become the interim Prime Minister of Nepal. On Friday night, the President administered him oath and created history! For the first time in the political history of Nepal, 220 years old, a woman is sitting in this chair. The love story of Sushila, who took a master degree from India’s Banaras Hindu University, also started in this college. But the name of Durga Prasad Subedi, who became Sushila’s husband in Bhavishya, is associated with the plane hijack, with 22 other riders in the plane, along with the Indian actress Mala Sinha. Let’s tell what is the most church hijack in the history of Nepal.
Sushila Karki became the first woman Chief Justice of Nepal in 2016. It was not just a verse, but an example for women. Sushila always gave priority to justice – whether it is decision in the court or change in society. Sushila has been one of the highest voices against corruption in Nepal. Due to his attitude, the government brought a grand yoga against him in 2017, but the public took to the streets in his support. The youth of Nepal, who are fed up with corruption and unemployment, chose them because they are the idol of justice. And on Friday night, when the President administered the oath, the roads of Kathmandu drowned in celebrations.
Sushila studied from Banaras Hindu University (BHU). He met Durga Prasad Subedi here. Both of them got their eyes, talks happened, and then promised to fulfill my life. Durga Prasad Subedi – On hearing the name, the eyes of Nepal’s historians glow. He was a revolutionary who raised his voice against the monarchy and that is why his plane hijack is also the most famous in the history of Nepal. This incident took place on 10 June 1973. The aircraft had 22 passengers, including Nepal’s famous actor couple CP Lohani and India’s superstar Mala Sinha.
Hijacking of 1973: No robbery, weapon of revolution
It was not a common kidnapping. Durga Prasad performed this ‘operation’ with Nagendra Dhungel and Basant Bhattarai. Its purpose was not to harm the passengers, but to loot cash of Rs 32 lakhs laden in the aircraft. This money was coming from the banks of Birtnagar, and was going to be used to strengthen the ongoing armed movement against King Mahendra’s monarchy. Girija Prasad Koirala was the mastermind of this plan – the same, who later became the Prime Minister of Nepal.
As soon as the plane landed in Farbisganj in Bihar, companions waiting on the ground became active. Cash -filled boxes were removed, Darjeeling was taken by road. Then the aircraft allowed to fly along with the rest of the passengers! No injury, no drama – just a clever step of revolution. This first hijacking in the history of Nepal remained headlines for a long time. Most of the kidnappers were arrested in India within a year. Durga Prasad was sentenced to two years, but was released during India’s Emergency in 1975.
