QS World Rankings 2026: IIT Delhi has specially improved, carried forward 27 posts to achieve 123rd rank, which is quite a jump from last year’s 150th place.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently approached the QS World University Ranking 2026, highlighting the significant progress made by Indian institutions this year. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has specially improved, carried forward 27 posts to achieve the 123rd rank, which is quite a jump from the 150th place of the previous year.
The Prime Minister posted on X, “QS World University 2026 ranking brings very good news for our education sector. Our government is committed to carrying forward research and innovation ecosystem for the benefit of youth of India.”

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced that a total of 54 higher educational institutions in India have been depicted in the QS World University 2026 rankings, which makes a new high marking for the country. The number of Indian universities in these rankings has increased from just 11 to 54 in 2014, in the latest list, they have posted on X. This is an increase of 390 percent in the last decade.
Pradhan expressed confidence that with focus on research, innovation and internationalization of National Education Policy, even more Indian Higher Education Institutes would gain global excellence in future. He said that India claims the fastest growing education system among the G20 countries and is ranked fourth in representation after the US, Britain and China.
Meanwhile, according to the QS rankings 2026, IIT Bombay came to 129th position at 11 places. In 2025, it was ranked 118th, however, it remains the second best ranked Indian institution globally. IIT Madras recorded one of the most dramatic reforms in 2026 – jumped at 47 places to reach 180th. This is the first time it has entered the global top 200.
The QS World University Rankings, Global Higher Education Announcement firm is published annually by Quaciverely Symonds, assessment of universities is based on a variety of performance indicators, including educational reputation, faculty ratio, research effects, research effects, international student diversity and graduate employment.
