Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has defended the state government’s move to hire a US-based consulting firm to oversee the state’s finances. “Even the Prime Minister is supporting the move,” he said. Rao’s remarks came a day after Karnataka BJP chief BY Vijayendra slammed the state government’s decision, calling it “humiliating” and “like handing over the reins to the East India Company”.

Vijayendra posted on X on Thursday, “The Congress government in Karnataka is effectively declaring itself inept and incompetent. When the state government acts under the instructions of an outside agency, the welfare of the people takes a backseat and innocent citizens suffer!”
Karnataka minister defends hiring of BCG company
Reacting to the criticism on Friday, Rao said the Boston Consulting Group is “a recognised group across the world.” “Even Prime Minister Modi used the Boston Consulting Group to prepare the blueprint for his Vision 2024,” he added.
He claimed that former Karnataka Chief Ministers BS Yediyurappa and Basavaraj Bommai used this group. “Not only BCG, but many other groups like McKinsey, KPMG and Deloitte also use this group,” Rao told ANI.
The Congress leader further explained that governments and non-governmental groups use these services to “get feedback and information and their advice on what’s happening and how we can improve our systems”.
Reacting to the Karnataka BJP chief’s remarks, Rao said, “If he says foolish things, it means he lacks knowledge, that’s all we can say.” He said “false and foolish comments” were being made by the state BJP president.
The Congress-led Karnataka government recently hired BCG as a consultant to help it suggest ways to increase its revenue. BCG will work with the state finance department for six months and has set a fee of around Rs 15 lakh, reports Money Control. Rs 9.5 crore
BCG has also begun working closely with the Finance Department to streamline expenditure in tenders across key departments, the report said.
The company has not yet commented on the controversy.
