Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday laid the foundation stone of two new campuses of Delhi University and Veer Savarkar College through virtual medium. The project, with an investment of over Rs 600 crore, aims to expand educational opportunities and modernize infrastructure.
The foundation stone laying ceremony took place at Ashok Vihar, where the Prime Minister also inaugurated several other infrastructure projects for Delhi.
DU expansion with East and West campus
As part of DU’s efforts to expand its presence across the city, the East Campus in Surajmal Vihar and the West Campus in Dwarka Sector 22 will join the existing North and South campuses.
The East Campus will be spread over 15.25 acres and is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 373 crore. It will offer programs such as LLB, LLM and an integrated five-year LLB course along with other multidisciplinary courses. The campus will have modern facilities including 60 classrooms, 10 tutorial rooms, six moot courts, four computer labs, two cafeterias and two common rooms within a built-up area of 59,618 square meters.
The first phase of the West Campus, being built at a cost of Rs 107 crore, will have a new academic block. Spread over 19,434.28 square metres, it will include 42 classrooms, two moot courts, a digital library, conference rooms, seminar halls and separate common rooms for boys and girls.
Veer Savarkar College to strengthen educational infrastructure in Najafgarh
Prime Minister Modi also laid the foundation stone of Veer Savarkar College in Roshanpura, Najafgarh, just five minutes’ walk from the West Campus.
The college, with a built-up area of 18,816.56 square meters and an estimated cost of Rs 140 crore, will have modern facilities. These include 24 classrooms, eight tutorial rooms, 40 faculty rooms, departmental library, conference rooms and a canteen, aimed at providing a comprehensive learning environment.

These initiatives aim to strengthen the educational infrastructure of Delhi and provide state-of-the-art facilities for students and teachers alike.
