Places to Visit in Bhutan: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bhutan has once again brought this small but beautiful Himalayan country into the limelight. Bhutan, known as the “happiest country” in the world, is known for its natural beauty, spiritual peace and unique culture. The serene valleys, Buddhist monasteries and smiling faces of the people here give a place in the heart of every tourist. 1. Paro- Among the most beautiful and famous cities of Bhutan, Paro comes first. This place is known for lush green mountains, snow capped peaks and Paro river. The main attraction here is Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang Monastery), which is situated on the top of a hill. It is said that Guru Padmasambhava used to meditate here. Paro is not just a tourist destination but the soul of Bhutan.

2. Thimphu- Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan, is a beautiful combination of modernity and tradition. There are neither traffic signals nor noise here. Still this city is very organized and clean. In Thimphu you can see Buddha Dordenma Statue, Memorial Chorten and Thimphu Weekend Market. The peaceful atmosphere here and the simplicity of the local people wins hearts.

3. Phobjikha Valley- This valley is famous for its natural beauty and rare black-necked crane birds. Hundreds of cranes come here during the winter season, making it a paradise for bird lovers. Walking here gives an experience like meditation.

4. Chelela Pass (Chele La Pass)- Chelela Pass is the highest motorable road in Bhutan, which connects Paro and Ha Valley. The views of snowy mountains visible from here will mesmerize you. Driving in the snow and taking pictures is the favorite activity of the tourists here.

5. Punakha Dzong – Punakha Dzong is one of the most beautiful and historical places in Bhutan. It is situated at the confluence of Mo Chu and Pho Chu rivers. Its building made of wood and stone is a great example of Bhutanese architecture.

6. Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park – This national park is a paradise for wildlife lovers. Himalayan black bear, red panda and many rare bird species are found here. You can enjoy birdwatching and nature trails here.

7. Bhutanese Food and Local Markets- A trip to Bhutan is incomplete without tasting the food here. Ema Datshi (dish made of cheese and chilli) is the national dish here. Also, you can buy beautiful handicrafts, Thanka paintings and traditional dress “Gho” from the local markets of Thimphu and Paro.
