Rajneesh Yadav / Prayagraj: Every day, there are reports of half-constructed and completed bridges collapsing from different parts of the country. Many bridges collapse while being built and some collapse within a few days of being fully built. In such times, we are going to tell you about a 120-year-old bridge which is still in use. The 120-year-old Curzon Bridge built on the river Ganga in Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh is still standing intact. This bridge from the British era is still proving its strength. Although it is no longer in service, people have found a way to use it for their own benefit.
Curzon Bridge has become a picnic spot
Picnic spots are increasing continuously in Prayagraj. Marine Drive is the river front built on the banks of Nagvasuki temple, while Gau Ghat and Saraswati Ghat are famous picnic spots. Prayagraj’s Curzon Bridge built on the Ganga river has become the main picnic spot for the local people due to its location and beauty. People coming here often try to see the distant view of the Ganga river by standing on this bridge. From here, the view is very picturesque along with being green.
From this bridge, people coming to the Shivkuti Temple, Phaphamau Ghat situated on the banks of the Ganga and the over bridge on both sides will be seen taking selfies and shooting videos.
prepare for fitness
It is difficult to find large and open grounds in cities, but fitness conscious people find alternatives. Umesh Yadav, who came to Curzon Bridge for fitness, says that ever since we have been preparing while staying in Prayagraj, we definitely come to run on this Curzon Bridge once in the morning or evening. If one completes even one round of the bridge here, it is enough practice. The length of this bridge from one side is 5 kilometers.
Traffic has been closed since 1998
The Curzon Bridge connected Prayagraj, Lucknow and Ayodhya by rail and road, under which trains passed and vehicles passed over it. Seeing the deteriorating quality and strength of this Curzon Bridge, it was decommissioned in 1998 and another option was made. This bridge is still standing strong and efforts are being made by the Uttar Pradesh government to make it a picnic spot.
