Indian Air Transport Act, 2024: The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation has issued new rules to investigate aircraft accidents and air events. The new draft has been published in the Gazette of India in the name of air marriages (investigating accidents and events) Rules, 2025. From the perspective of passengers, the new rule is being seen as a big step towards making air travel more secure. What do these rules matter to air travelers? We all have the biggest concern while air travel – security. Nobody wants anything untoward during the flight. The aim of these new rules of the government is that the plane accidents should be stopped and if there is any incident, then it should be investigated correctly. These rules have been made not to blame anyone, but to avoid such incidents in future.

What is special for passengers?

• Emphasis on security: These rules will apply to all aircraft flying in India, whether they are Indians or foreigners. Even investigations of unmanned aircrafts like drones will come under their purview. That is, every aspect of air travel will now be under more strict supervision.
• Fast investigation with immediate information: If an accident or a serious incident occurs, the pilot, aircraft owner or operator will have to immediately inform the Aicraft Executive Investigation Bureau (AAIB) and the local administration. This means that passengers can get help quickly and there will be no delay in investigation.
• Protection of evidence: Strict rules have been made to protect flight data recorders (black box) or other evidence at the accident site. No one can tamper with them without permission. This ensures that the investigation is transparent and the exact reason is revealed.
• International cooperation: If an accident occurs, the country in which the aircraft was built, from where it blew, or where it is registered, can be involved in the investigation. It assures passengers that the investigation will be completely fair.
• Privacy of data: The data of the flight recorder will not be shared without permission. With this, the personal information of passengers will be safe.
