The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has labeled paracetamol along with 52 other medicines as ‘NSQ’, meaning ‘not of standard quality’. NSQ alerts are issued following random quality screening tests administered by state drug authorities. The alert contained not only a list of NSQ labeled drugs but also a list of responses from their manufacturers. Although one manufacturer specifically referred to the batch subject to inspection as potentially carrying counterfeit drugs, it is always better to be safe than sorry.
So what if not paracetamol? Broth, ginger and turmeric for protection
Dr Minesh Mehta, consultant intensive and critical care specialist at Shalby Hospital, Ahmedabad, signed off on ibuprofen, meprosin, meftal, diclofenac and nimesulide as alternatives.
Dr. Vibhu Kawatra, pediatric pulmonologist and allergist at Rainbow Hospital, Delhi, also lists some natural remedies that you can include in your sick day routine to speed up the recovery process. He shares, “Drinking plenty of fluids, such as water, herbal teas and clear broths, helps keep the body hydrated and can help with cooling. Drinking ginger or peppermint tea can also help soothe discomfort.” And may help promote sweating, which can help cool the body”. Some more methods recommended by Dr. Kawatra include willow bark which can help ease pain and reduce fever as well as turmeric which is known for its anti-inflammatory properties.
They concluded, “Applying a cool, wet cloth to the forehead, wrists, or neck can provide relief and help reduce body temperature. Taking a lukewarm bath can help gently reduce a fever.” “Avoid cold baths as this may increase shivering and worsen the cold.” body temperature. Also ensure adequate rest which will help the body fight infection, which is often the root cause of fever.
