International open-water swimmer Meenakshi Pahuja recently swam from Rewas Jetty in Alibaug to the Gateway of India to raise awareness about water pollution.
International open-water swimmer Meenakshi Pahuja recently swam a distance of 20 km from Rewas Jetty in Alibaug to the Gateway of India in Mumbai to raise awareness about water pollution. The Nari Shakti Award winner and three-time Limca Book of Records holder started swimming at 5 am.
“Water is a powerful element of nature that sustains life. My effort was to make people understand that we cannot pollute it and take it lightly. It is our responsibility not to pollute it and take steps towards safeguarding our natural resources for future generations,” Pahuja tells us, “This achievement is a tribute to Abhinav Kant Chaturvedi, Kirish Gandhi and Faisal, my skilled escort. Would not have been possible without the team. Siddiqui, who provided guidance and assistance during my swim.
Pahuja, who hails from Delhi, is a 13-time national medal winner. She says this swim in Maharashtra was a tribute to her late father and guru, veteran swimming coach VK Pahuja.
