With the help of government agencies, the infrastructure of India’s roads is increasing at a significant pace, which is accelerating the modernization and expansion of the country’s road network. In August 2024, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CECA) approved a total of eight new proposals of the National Corridor with high speed. Equal efforts were made to improve the safety ecosystem, ensuring so much attention to the process, technique and structure of road construction, technology and composition. In India in 2023, more than 1.72 lakh people lost their lives in road accidents, which could have been stopped. Such deaths are a big tragedy and immediate attention needs to be paid to stop it. Road Safety Abhiyan 2025 (SSA 2025), a public awareness campaign started with its third year to sensitive and educate people.

This year’s theme – ‘Will care, be safe’. Its purpose was to motivate citizens to take responsibility for following traffic rules towards making roads safe in the country. For the safety of himself and others, this campaign was focused on joining the children this year so that they become road safety champions and join this campaign and also awaken a sense of sensitivity towards road safety.

This initiative has been successful in attracting people’s attention towards promoting sensitivity on roads by explaining the value of security to citizens with its last two versions, securing human life and Indian roads. This year’s SSA was based on four major principles to ensure the prevention of road accidents and to make people responsible for road safety and accidents more aware in relation to mortality. These principles are – care (caring), initiative (a beginning for awareness on road safety), effort (effort to promote road safety laws) and change (behavior and changes in the behavior and habits of those brought by efforts To observe the results).

According to reports, there are an average of 474 deaths every day in India, which means 20 deaths every hour. Adopting a new approach, SSA 2025 worked with children to ensure not only that their parents follow traffic rules but also ensured that they also become a safe driver in future. Through a special concert and Jubilee Theater Company with stories, art, Shillong Chamber Choir Choir and Shankar Mahadevan, SSA aims to include children as road safety ambassadors. Ayush Kalra and Prakriti Kalra who are popularly known as Age and Pihu, these energetic young YouTubers also hosted an interactive quiz in it.

Apart from the concert, special regional programs were also held in 20 cities in January for awareness about driving, Good Samaritan Act and other aspects. Apart from this, the road safety bus made a journey to different places of the country, which aims to make learning about road safety attractive and accessible. With road safety guidelines and fun simulator Learning Games, there was simply power pack that educated and empowered the next generation. Actor Amitabh Bachchan and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari concluded with Telethon through the call to secure the roads.

Loss of life and property that can be stopped on our streets is a warning, which we cannot easily ignore. The goal of the road safety campaign 2025 is to create a sense of security in the minds of the youth, to empower them as a representative of change. By united the road policy specialists, law makers, leading industrialists and influential people, this initiative inspires to change mentality, raise awareness about laws.
