Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said medical education is being strengthened in the state as the number of MBBS seats has doubled and 17 new medical colleges have been opened this year.
He emphasized on the remarkable transformation in healthcare in Uttar Pradesh, recalling how BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur, once termed as a ‘sick’ state, is today giving healthy competition to the prestigious AIIMS Gorakhpur.
Addressing a gathering during the inauguration program of the KMC Medical College (PPP) in Maharajganj district, he mentioned that when he took charge of the office in 2017, the state lacked sufficient funds even for salaries, then Significant progress has also been made through teamwork and collective support. was achieved.
CM said that till now 5.14 crore underprivileged persons in Uttar Pradesh have received the golden card of Ayushman Bharat Scheme.
Adityanath said that with the establishment of AIIMS in Gorakhpur, medical colleges have started in Kushinagar, Deoria, Basti, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, Bahraich, Sultanpur, Ambedkarnagar, Ayodhya, Pratapgarh.
He said that at one time there were only 18 medical colleges in the entire country in Uttar Pradesh, but today health care institutions have been established in 64 districts.
Medical colleges will be set up with the new policy for the remaining 6-7 districts, Adityanath said. “We will fulfill the resolve of ‘one district, one medical college’.” Accusing the previous governments of neglecting the Terai districts of the state, the Chief Minister said that today Maharajganj district is no longer neglected.
Adityanath said, “Since Independence, the Terai districts have suffered continuous neglect, often ignored by previous governments. However, today Maharajganj has not been sidelined, as the district has received development projects worth Rs 940 crore, which represents a huge progress. Earlier the condition of government facilities was very bad. There was no electricity, nor were the roads good. He alleged that sugar mills kept getting closed, due to pollution in drinking water, diseases like encephalitis were engulfing the youth here and there was terror of malaria.
“However, today encephalitis is gone forever in the eastern region. No one dies innocent anymore. Today Maharajganj is not neglected.
Ensuring good connectivity for these new medical colleges is the top priority of the government. Additionally, nursing and paramedical colleges are being developed across the state to strengthen the healthcare workforce,” the CM said.
He also said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is becoming an economic power of the world.
PM Modi has made India the fifth largest economy in the world. He said that this pace of growth shows that India will be the third largest economy in the world in the next three years.
