New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Wednesday cancelled the UGC-National Eligibility Test (UGC-National Eligibility Test) after reports emerged that the sanctity of the exam had been compromised.
The NTA had conducted the UGC-NET exam in 83 subjects in OMR (pen and paper) mode in two shifts on June 18 across various cities in the country.
In a statement issued late night, the Ministry of Education said that a fresh examination will be conducted, information about which will be shared separately. Also, the case is being handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for thorough investigation of the matter.
Ensuring transparency
According to the ministry, on June 19, the University Grants Commission (UGC) received some inputs about the examination from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analysis Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs. These inputs prima facie indicate that the integrity of the said examination has been compromised.
It said, “In order to ensure the highest level of transparency and sanctity in the examination process, the Ministry of Education has decided that the UGC-NET June 2024 examination be cancelled. A fresh examination will be conducted, the information for which will be shared separately. Also, the matter is being handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation for a thorough investigation of the matter.”
This year a total of 11,21,225 candidates had registered for this exam. This exam is conducted to determine the eligibility of Indian citizens for the post of Assistant Professor in Indian universities and colleges as well as Junior Research Fellowship. A total of 9,08,580 candidates appeared in this exam.
NEET Failure
in a case relating to National Eligibility Criteria Regarding the (UG) Examination-2024, the Ministry of Education said that the issue related to grace marks has already been fully resolved. “Regarding some irregularities alleged in the conduct of the examination in Patna, a detailed report has been sought from the Economic Offences Unit, Bihar Police. On receipt of this report, the government will take further action,” the ministry said.
The ministry said, “The government is committed to ensuring the sanctity of examinations and protecting the interests of students. It is reiterated that strict action will be taken against any individual/organisation found involved in this matter.”
