New Delhi: In an effort to connect with farmers and address their concerns, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday launched a monthly radio programme called “Kisan Se Baat”.
Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popular radio programme “Mann Ki Baat”, the programme aims to provide a platform to farmers to connect with the Minister, agricultural scientists and officials of the Ministry.
A senior government official said the programme would launch in September – possibly a week before the prime minister’s radio programme.
“During the programme, we will discuss various aspects of farming, including best practices, new technologies and innovative ways to increase productivity,” Chauhan said at an event on Thursday.
The Minister will be accompanied by experts from the agriculture sector, who will share their knowledge and expertise on topics such as soil health, irrigation, crop management and pest control.
He said the programme will also provide an opportunity to farmers to raise their concerns and issues, which will be addressed by the ministry and experts.
This interactive approach will help in resolving the problems of farmers and provide them timely advice and guidance.
This step was taken amid growing discontent among farmers
The move comes amid growing discontent among farmers, who want a law for higher support price for agricultural produce, among other demands.
Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait criticised the minister, saying “such populist programmes” will not help the farming community as farmers are well aware of the sowing pattern and the health of their soil.
Tikait, national spokesperson of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), said if the government really wants to do something for the farmers, it should provide better prices for their produce.
“Farmers know what to grow in which season. They also know what measures should be taken to control pests. The radio programme may bring the minister into the limelight, but it will not solve the real problems of farmers,” Tikait said.
