Seoul: On Thursday, North Korea fired several ballistic missiles towards its eastern water area, which has increased tension in the area. South Korea’s army gave this information. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff reported that missiles fired from the area around the Eastern port city of Vansan were probably short distance ballistic missiles. The South Korean army did not immediately say how far these missiles went. Joint Chiefs said that the army has strengthened monitoring and shared information about the launch with the US and Japan.
This is North Korea’s sixth missile launch this year. Earlier on March 10, it also fired ballistic missiles, when the US and South Korea started joint military exercises. Tension is increasing on the Korean peninsula, as Kim Jong Un is intensifying nuclear and missile programs and supplying weapons and soldiers to Russia for Ukraine War. On Wednesday, North Korean media reported that Kim called for increasing ammunition production to strengthen the alliance with Russia.
North Korea engaged in helping Russia
After refusing to involve the war for several months, North Korea confirmed for the first time last month that it had sent fighter soldiers to help Russia, so that last year, parts of the lost kursk region could be captured in the Ukrainian attack last year. Recent South Korean intelligence assault shows that North Korea has sent around 15,000 soldiers to Russia, out of which about 5,000 have been killed or injured in the fight against Ukrainian forces. The US and South Korea have also accused North Korea of supplying a variety of military equipment to Russia, including artillery systems, shells and ballistic missiles.
