Whether prioritizing relaxation or seeking deep cultural immersion, the modern traveler was looking for a change rather than just a change of scenery.

Set Jetting 2.0

The biggest driver for destination exploration in 2025 was the rise of set-jetting 2.0, a trend where fans visit locations where movies or shows were shot. While the original version was fueled by big-screen Bollywood movies, the ‘2.0’ upgrade is all about OTT series like Squid Games, White Lotus or Emily in Paris. Driven by the desire for ‘main character energy’, this trend is making places like Paris, Manali and Ladakh aesthetic destinations.

night routine

This year saw an increase in night tourism, due to the desire to escape the daytime heat and crowds, as well as a rise in astrotourism globally. The highlight of this trend is the world after sunset! This means moonlit walks, stargazing and night markets.

forest bathing

Forest bathing is inspired by the Japanese wellness practice, Shinrin-yoku. It is a mindful and sensory immersion in the woods to relieve stress. With stress on the rise, India’s forests like the Himalayas and the Western Ghats have become therapeutic retreats with stress-busting greenery.

River walking and land-snorkeling

These are the new playful, low-impact adventures. To walk on a river is to cross a river bed for an intense sensory response. Land snorkelling emphasizes focusing on the small details of the forest such as insects, moss and textures. They became popular as a conscious alternative to high-adrenaline activities.

Agritourism and rural migration

In 2025, youth trade the chaos of the city for the peace of farm living, desi rural life and practical experiences like harvesting or cooking local delicacies.

sleep tourism

2025 sees a rise in choosing hotels, resorts or retreats that focus on customizing your rest, particularly with sleep menus and ‘sleep concierges’. This sparked a competition among Indian luxury hotels to see who offers the best snooze-friendly experience.

miniaturization

Why take one long break when you can take four short ones? This trend, called minication, took advantage of the long weekend for a short but high-impact and sweet escape – a necessary and frequent mental health break.

ai-travel

AI chatbots and hyper-personalized algorithms instantly create your perfect itineraries and flight alerts. This gained momentum as travelers are both tech-savvy and value-conscious, making complex, customized journeys seamless and cost-effective.

hotel tour

A new wave where travelers move between different hotel properties in the same city or region to experience different vibes and amenities. The trend was all about experiencing diverse terrains, despite the inconvenience of frequent packing and check-ins.

art holidays

Trips focused on practical creative experiences. Instead of just looking at art, you make it – think about attending pottery workshops or a local craft residency.

trip down memory lane

This year saw an increase in the search for comfort and simpler times. The attraction of this trend is all about recreating childhood trips or visiting destinations that seem ‘timeless’.

emotional journey

Spiritual journeys evolved into intense, high-impact cultural experiences, inspired by Millennials and Gen Z reconnecting with their roots. It’s all about ‘Prarthana’ (prayer + leisure), where travelers seek experience rather than philosophy – think yoga retreats and cultural storytelling. Prayag Mahakumbh Mela (January-February 2025) was the ultimate spiritual mega-event that reshaped mass tourism.

Desperate Dash: Last Chance Tourism

The flip side of overtourism is last chance tourism – the desperate rush to see vulnerable natural wonders before they disappear due to climate change. Ironically, this tendency often accelerates the destruction he wishes to see. Globally, the race was on to see Antarctica’s melting glaciers and Australia’s Great Barrier Reef before it was too late. This urgency puts pressure on fragile destinations, leading to a shift away from responsible travel and instead promoting vast, beautiful, lesser-known areas.
