NEET UG Result 2024: The National Testing Agency (NTA) published the centre and city-wise NEET UG result 2024 on its official websites – exam.nta.ac.in/NEET/ and neet.ntaonline.in – on Saturday, July 20. These results have been released in compliance with the Supreme Court order.
This year the NEET UG main exam was conducted on May 5, 2024 and the results were released on June 4, 2024. Around 24 lakh candidates appeared in this exam. The exam was conducted at 4,750 centers in 571 cities, including 14 foreign cities. The re-exam was conducted on June 23, 2024, while the results were declared on June 30, 2024. A total of 1,563 candidates appeared in this exam.
Controversy erupted after the NEET results were declared last month, with allegations of paper leak and irregularities in the conduct of the undergraduate medical exam. Several petitions were filed in the Supreme Court and high courts after grace marks were allotted to candidates to compensate for the loss of time. At six centres across India, the exam began later than scheduled. The Supreme Court cancelled these grace marks and asked the NTA to conduct an alternative retest for the 1,563 affected candidates.
The Supreme Court had ordered the exam agency to publish the results while concealing the identity of the candidates. The move was aimed at finding out whether candidates who appeared at allegedly tainted centres had scored more marks than candidates who appeared elsewhere. Earlier, the court had ordered the exam agency to release the results by 5:00 pm on July 19. However, it granted time till Saturday afternoon on the request of the NTA.
The Supreme Court is hearing a number of petitions seeking quashing of the prestigious exam, re-examination and a court-monitored probe into allegations of irregularities in the exam. On July 22, the Supreme Court will resume hearing arguments on a batch of petitions.
