The National Testing Agency (NTA) launched the application process on the official website- neet.nta.nic.in on Friday, February 7, 2024 for the National Eligibility-cum-entry Bachelor (NEET-Un) 2025. The official schedule, NEET UG 2025 is to be held on 4 May 2025. When releasing the schedule for the NEET UG 2025 exam, the agency has introduced several significant changes in the operation of the medical admission test.
A major update modified city selection process. For the first time, the candidates will be able to choose three cities for their examination center, from the previous option of two. While filling the NEET 2025 application form, candidates will have to select these cities in order of preference. However, the selection of cities will be limited to those who ensure convenience for all applicants within the position of permanent or current address of the candidate. The NTA has advised candidates to select their own state or nearby cities, which discourage the selection of distant cities in other states.

In another update, the NTA has announced that if there are not enough candidates for the examination center with the regional language, the candidates can be assigned to a center outside their favorite list, regardless of their initial choice.
Additionally, the number of examination centers in India for NEET UG 2025 has been reduced by 552, five, compared to last year. However, the number of international examination cities is the same at 14.
No optional questions in NEET UG 2025
According to the updated exam pattern, NEET UG 2025 question paper will include 180 mandatory questions from physics, chemistry and biology. Candidates will have 3 hours to answer these questions, and the exam will be conducted for a total of 720 marks. There will be no optional questions this year, streamlining the examination format.
NEET UG Tie-breaking method modified
NTA has also revised the tie-breaking process for NEET UG 2025. In cases where two or more candidates get the same score, an independent expert committee will now resolve the tie using the “random process” according to the latest information bulletin. This new method follows the removal of last year’s application number and age criteria from tie-breaking rules.
Extended center opening time
For additional convenience, NTA has increased the initial time of NEET UG examination centers. This year, the Center will open three hours before the examination starts instead of two hours in the previous years. The exam will be held from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, in which the centers now open at 11:00 am, so that candidates can get additional time for admission, security check and other necessary procedures.
