The number of Rank 1 holders decreased from 61 to 17:
The revised results have presented a contrasting picture as far as the number of first rank holders is concerned. A total of 17 candidates have shared the top rank in the latest results, while the previous result showed 61 candidates.
It is noteworthy that a total of 67 candidates had scored 720 marks in the results declared on June 4, 2024, raising suspicion. This number later came down to 61 after the NTA removed the grace marks given to them due to loss of time.

As a result, a total of 44 out of 61 candidates had scored 720/720 marks, but the expert panel of IIT-Delhi informed the Supreme Court that a question in the Physics section of the NEET-UG 2024 exam had only one correct answer, not two. This meant that only 17 candidates were left to share Rank 1.
The Supreme Court had directed the NTA to follow the recommendation of IIT Delhi on the controversial Physics question and re-match the results. “In view of the determination of the experts, we do not have any doubt regarding the correct option… We accept the report of IIT Delhi, and accordingly, the NTA shall re-match the NEET UG result on the ground that option 4 represents the only correct answer to the question,” the apex court said.
