According to the Health Ministry, new dates for the examinations will be announced soon
The NEET-PG entrance exam for medical students, conducted by the National Board of Examinations, has been postponed as a “precautionary measure” in the wake of recent allegations on the integrity of some competitive exams. The Health Ministry said on Saturday that new dates for the exams, which were scheduled to be held on June 23, will be announced soon.
“In view of the recent developments in the allegations regarding the integrity of some competitive examinations, the Ministry of Health has decided to undertake a thorough evaluation of the robustness of the processes of the NEET-PG entrance examination,” the ministry said in an official statement.
It added, “Accordingly, as a precautionary measure, it has been decided to postpone the NEET-PG entrance examination scheduled to be held tomorrow i.e. June 23, 2024. The new date for this examination will be notified at the earliest.”
The Health Ministry regretted the inconvenience caused to the students. The ministry said, “This decision has been taken in the best interest of the students and to maintain the sanctity of the examination process.”
Opposition attacks the center
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on his official X account attacked the government for postponing the NEET UG exam. He said, “No day is complete without news of an exam being cancelled, because of the utter incompetence of the non-biological Prime Minister and those around him. The latest exam to be postponed is NEET-PG, which was scheduled to be held yesterday.”
NCP spokesperson Clyde Crasto also attacked the ruling government and called it a continuous failure of the Centre’s education department. He said, “By failing to do its job, the government is playing with the lives and future of children. Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan cannot absolve himself of his failure to perform his duty by sacking the #NTA DG (exam body chief). He must resign from the post of minister and accept accountability for all the irregularities and malpractices in the examination process in our country.”
On the postponement of NEET PG exam, Congress leader Pawan Khera said, “The NEET PG exam scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed tonight… This government is not able to conduct the exam. This government has completely lost its trust among the youth. The education minister who was giving a clean chit to NTA 4 days ago is now removing the Director General of NTA. Who is responsible for the exams? Who is being protected? When will this investigation happen? When will this government be able to conduct the exam properly? People are not getting answers to these questions.”
