The Madhya Pradesh High Court has directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to organize a reet for NEET-UG candidates, which are influenced by the power outage at the examination centers, assuming that they were wrongly deprived through a PTI report, according to a PTI report.
High court Referred to Article 14 of the Indian Constitution, which guarantees equality and justice for all citizens, to give relief to the petitioners.
National eligibility-cum-entry test (Neet-UG) was held on 4 May, when some parts of the state experienced power outage due to bad weather.
Justice Subodh Abhyankar from the Indore bench of the High Court reserved his decision after hearing the arguments of all the parties involved in the petitions of several NEET-UG candidates in the last month.
The petitioners’ counsel Sridul Bhatnagar told PTI that the court order will benefit 75 candidates affected by power cuts in NEET-UG examination centers in Indore and Ujjain.
The order states that, through their own faults, the candidates were wrongly denied a power outage. The outage did not affect other examination centers or even the same center, where some students benefited from good places with sufficient natural light.
In addition, the court directed NTA To execute the exam immediately for the affected candidates and to announce the results, emphasizing that the ranking of the petitioners should be completely determined by their score.
PTI said, “It has been clarified that persons who filed a petition after the provisional answer key i.e. June 3, 2025 will not be entitled to receive any benefit of this order,” said PTI.
The petitioners said that a power outage caused by bad weather on 4 May affected their performance in the entrance examination and requested permission to withdraw it.
Representing the NTA, India’s Solicitor General Tushar Mehta cited a committee report, stating that most of the examination centers had alternative power arrangements. Additionally, electricity was quickly restored after complaints to the power distribution company.
