The unmanned NASA Boeing Starliner ‘Calypso’ will be separated from the International Space Station (ISS) on September 6, the space agency said.
Starliner’s return trip to Earth is expected to take about six hours, from landing at White Sands Space Harbor in New Mexico, to undocking, according to a NASA blog post.
Ground teams will remotely guide the spacecraft through the procedures needed for safe undocking, reentry and parachute-assisted landing in the southwestern United States.
NASA also said that Starliner has successfully completed unmanned entry and landing during the first two orbital flight tests.

NASA’s unmanned Boeing Starliner ‘Calypso’ will return to Earth on Friday, September 6. According to the NASA blog, the spacecraft will return at 3:30 pm Indian time (6:04 am Eastern time).
The Boeing Starliner will land on Saturday, Sept. 7, at approximately 9:30 a.m. EST (2:03 a.m. ET).
It will descend under a parachute and have inflated airbags to cushion the impact.

Sunita Williams returns to Earth
Last week, NASA said that two of its astronauts – Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams – who traveled to the ISS on Starliner in June would return to Earth on a SpaceX vehicle in February next year.
They will remain aboard the orbiting complex as part of the Expedition 71/72 crew until February 2025, when they will return with the Crew-9 mission, NASA said.
The delay was attributed to a problem with the Starliner’s propulsion system, which was deemed too risky to return with a crew. The capsule experienced several glitches within the first 24 hours of its flight to the ISS.
